City of Sydney calls on retailers this Christmas

christmas-treeThe City of Sydney has asked for the help of retailers and shopping centres in the precinct to help create the 'magic of Christmas' in the city's centre this year.

The Christmas lights of Sydney’s Martin Place Christmas Tree will be turned on from November 26, with Sydney to be transformed as buildings are illuminated light projections, and festive decorations.

In order to help create the magic of Christmas the City of Sydney has requested the help of retailers, shopping centres in the area to help create a Forest of Christmas Trees that will attract pedestrians, visitors and workers to visit the city.

In order to do this, businesses are being asked to adorn their forecourts, shop windows with Christmas trees and decorations.

The goal is to encourage Sydneysiders and visitors from further afield to experience the joy of a unique Sydney Christmas experience to boost Sydney’s day and night time economies and deliver better economic outcomes for the retail, tourism, hospitality and accommodation sectors in particular.

In addition to enjoying the city, City of Sydney is keen to have people to share their Christmas experience in Sydney via social media. It is hoped that the business community will build on the City’s investment in Christmas to amplify the experience.

As part of the push the City has launched the website, and is preparing a marketing campaign. The City of Sydney would like  to know about Sydney-based retailers' special Christmas events, shopping nights, decorations, promotions, and offers.

Retailers wishing to submit an event listing to the website can use the online form on the What’s On website. Once submitted, the event may be chosen to feature on It may also appear across any of the City of Sydney's Christmas marketing initiatives, which include a 48 page Sydney Christmas Mini Magazine; What’s On e-newsletter in November and December; Christmas posts on City of Sydney's Facebook  Twitter, Instagram, or Google+; Christmas media program; or outdoor, print, radio and digital advertising in November and December.
