No matter what your credit terms are, there is always a risk you won't get paid. The Australian Government's Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) is one way to make sure you do.

The Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) have a particular focus on improving awareness for small to medium size businesses. They play an important role in helping businesses that deal with trade credit.

The PPSR provides a basic but important level of risk protection for retailers selling their goods on credit or trade terms (also known as retention of title supplies). By adding your information to the Australian Government’s PPSR, you’re declaring your interest in the goods you have supplied. This can mean you’ll have a legal right to be first in line to be paid or to get your goods back if a customer can’t pay or goes out of business.

PPSR protection applies even if goods are sold on, mixed or installed into other goods. Trade credit insurers are increasingly mandating registration on the PPSR to mitigate their loss.

And the good news! Adding your information to the PPSR costs $6 per customer and can cover future supplies of similar goods for up to 7 years. Registering to become a secured creditor, in particular for trade credit, may assist retailers to protect their balance sheet given the difficult economic times traders are facing.

Watch this 60 second video about the offer and how it can benefit your business.

The fact sheet 'Trying to get your invoices paid?' aims to help small businesses understand how they can tap into the protection. It outlines the two-step process required to become a secured creditor when supplying goods on trade credit.
